Nurses: If Florence Could See Us Now

Nurses: If Florence Could See Us Now

The movie Nurses: If Florence Could See Us Now, exudes real life examples of nursing which have only increased my desire and excitement to enter into the field. I found my inspiration to be a nurse renewed, especially during the scenes with pediatrics nurses. My dream is to work with pediatric patients and I loved having the opportunity to see and hear from some professionals working in that area. I also think the film helped me to realize the different skill sets I would need to develop to work in pediatrics. I acknowledge that I would have a lot to learn to be successful in this clinical area, but I am confident that if I was given the opportunity, I would be a great pediatric nurse.

In preparation for the job search, I have outlined places I plan to apply for, crafted a resume, and formulated the structure to a cover letter. Before I apply to my desired positions, I will research the organization’ s mission and make sure they align with my personal principles. This will help to ensure that this position would be a good fit. As part of the hiring process, I expect to have a few interviews. As I have never interviewed for a nursing job before, I will take some of the tips Whitney Duchaine presented in class, and schedule an appointment with career services to ensure I am adequately prepared. Prior to the interview, I will make sure to note my own questions for the organization including what opportunities they may have for furthering education, as I would like to go back to school for my APRN/NP. In the interview I will be sure to detail my strengths using specific clinical experiences and knowledge I obtained while in nursing school. I can also use my experience as an LNA and home health aide to highlight my caregiving abilities. While I may be asked to speak about my strengths, I may also be asked to describe challenges I expect to experience. I think as a new grad I will be faced with confidence issues and be timid in the workplace. However, I know that I will be able to overcome this obstacle through working with seasoned nurses and relying on my training and education. I know that I am not afraid to ask for help, and will feel reassured in doing so. Overall, I feel as though I am prepared for the interview process but would benefit from further guidance. The presentation in class and the in class movie has motivated me to devote more time and energy into the application and selection process.
